MOT failures
Failed on something that costs more to fix than the car is worth. Much of what we collect.
Bargate Yard · Linthwaite · HD7
We are a working yard in Linthwaite — not a call centre. We break cars for parts rather than weighing them in, free collection across HD1 to HD9, money in your account by instant bank transfer before your car goes on the truck, and your DVLA Certificate of Destruction sorted.
Every vehicle is depolluted on site. 95% recovery, 85% recycling — the legal targets under the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulations.
Takes thirty seconds. A person from the yard looks at it and rings you back with a firm price — no bots, and no haggling on the driveway.
What we take
We do not pick and choose the easy ones. The awkward jobs are most of what comes through the gate.
Failed on something that costs more to fix than the car is worth. Much of what we collect.
Will not start, will not move, seized, no keys. Costs you nothing extra — just tell us before the driver sets off.
Cat A, B, S or N, fire, flood, accident damage. Tell us the category and we will handle it properly.
Transit, Sprinter, Vivaro, pickups and 4x4s. Clearing more than one? Ring the yard directly.
We are a breaker, not a metal merchant — the parts come off before anything is crushed, and a running engine or a catalytic converter still on the car is worth more on a shelf than melted down. That is why a complete car is worth more here than at a weighbridge, and why it pays to leave it complete. How breaking a car works.
We do not publish a price list, because a number typed into a website is a guess. What a car is worth depends on its weight, whether the catalytic converter is still on it, and what is missing. Send us the registration and we will give you a real figure — one that does not change when the driver arrives.
How it works
Registration and postcode to start. No account, no forty questions, no chatbot.
Someone from the yard looks at your car properly and calls with a firm figure — normally within the hour.
Free, from your drive, the roadside or a garage forecourt. Have photo ID and proof of address ready — the law makes us check.
The bank transfer goes through while the driver is stood with you. Your Certificate of Destruction follows by email.
Where your car actually goes
Every end-of-life vehicle has to be stripped of anything harmful before a crusher ever touches it. We do that here, in Linthwaite, and the parts that still have life in them go back into circulation instead of into a furnace.
Fuel, engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, screenwash and air-conditioning gas.
Lead-acid and EV packs handled separately, under permit.
Pyrotechnic units deployed or removed before anything is dismantled.
Sent for retread, or shredded for surfacing and fuel.
Catalytic converters, engines, gearboxes and panels that still have life in them.
What is left is clean steel, pressed and sent back to the mills.
Recovery target by average weight for every end-of-life vehicle, set by the ELV Regulations.
Of that has to be genuine material recycling, not energy recovered from burning.
Areas we cover
We are at Bargate, on the Linthwaite side. Most of these are ten or fifteen minutes from the gate, which is why we can usually collect the same day — and why you get a local number rather than an 0800 queue.

Straight answers
No, and neither can anyone else. Cash for scrap metal, cars included, has been illegal since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. We pay by Faster Payment, which normally lands in under a minute — before your car goes on the truck.
We can still take the car. You will need photo ID and proof of address, and you should tell DVLA yourself as well. It sometimes affects the price because of the extra paperwork at our end.
No. Tell us when you ring and we will send the right truck. Non-runners, seized brakes, no wheels, up a track — it is the Colne Valley, we have seen it.
Often the same day for the villages near the yard, and normally within twenty-four hours across the HD postcodes. We will give you a real time slot, not a whole-day window.
No. Collection is free from anywhere we cover, whether the car drives onto the truck or has to be winched.
Give us the registration. We'll tell you what it's worth and, if you're happy, have it gone tomorrow.
