Failed its MOT? We'll take it off you
This is the commonest reason a car comes through our gate. It goes in for its MOT, comes back with a list, and the quote for the work is more than the car would fetch if you sold it fixed. At that point there is no sensible repair — only a decision about what to do with it.

When repairing stops making sense
The maths is usually simple. If the car is worth £700 running and the bill is £900, you are paying £900 for something you could not sell for £700 — and the next MOT is twelve months away, on a car that is a year older.
Corrosion is the one that ends most cars round here. Once structural rot is on the ticket, the welding bill climbs quickly and it rarely stops at one patch. Emissions failures on older diesels go the same way.
You do not have to move it anywhere
A car that has failed its MOT can only legally be driven to a pre-booked MOT or repair appointment — and not at all if it failed on something dangerous. So do not drive it to us. We collect, free, and we bring the right truck.
If it is sitting on a garage forecourt because the garage told you it was not worth fixing, that is fine too. We collect from garages constantly. Just give us the address and the name of the place.

Can I drive my car after it has failed its MOT?
Only to a pre-arranged MOT test or repair appointment, and only if it has not failed on a dangerous defect. Otherwise it is not road legal. Do not risk it for the sake of a collection we will do for free.
Is a failed MOT car worth less?
Not to us in the way you might think. We price on the vehicle, not the certificate — weight, whether the catalytic converter is still there, and what is missing. A failed MOT does not change any of that.
The garage says it needs £1,200 of welding. Should I scrap it?
Get a second opinion first if you are unsure — it costs nothing. If the figure holds and the car is worth less than the work, scrapping it is the rational answer. We would rather tell you that than take a car you should have kept.
